Marach sets up title clash with Qureshi

PUNE, MARCH 23. Top seed and winner of the first two legs at Mumbai and Nagpur, Oliver Marach of Austria entered the final of the third leg of the Desai Brothers-ITF Satellite tennis championship here today, defeating sixth seed Donovan September of South Africa 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Marach broke September in the seventh game and went on to take the first set 6-4. In the second set, September was broken in the first game but came back to break Marach's serve in the fourth and the 10th games to level the set score at 1-1. Both the players played some exciting tennis from the baseline and shared very anxious moments during the set.

In the other semifinal between two unseeded players, Aisam Qureshi of Pakistan got the better of Konstantinos Economidis of Greece 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

In doubles, Konstantinos Economidis and Nicksrivos of Greece stopped the run of Mustafa Ghouse and Vishal Uppal of India 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 7-5 in the semifinal.

In another semifinal, Artem Derespako and Michael Elgin of Russia thrashed the Indian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Vijay Kannan 6-3, 6-2.

The results (semifinals):

Singles: Oliver Marach (Aut) bt Donovan September (SA) 6-4, 4-6, 7-5; Aisam Qureshi (Pak) bt Konstantinos Economidis (Gre) 6-3, 7- 6 (7-4).

Doubles: Konstantinos Economidis/Nicksrivos (Gre)bt Mustafa Ghouse/Vishal Uppal (Ind) 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 7-5; Artem Derespako/Michael Elgin (Rus) bt Rohan Bopanna/Vijay Kannan 6-3, 6-2.
