Devotees must protest
Sir, - This has reference to the report (March 7) regarding
renovation of the Ranganatha idol. It is disturbing to read about
the changes being made to the idol of `Peria Perumal' at
Srirangam (in Tamil Nadu). The temple, which has a hoary past,
has been managed as per traditions laid down by Sri Ramanuja.
Hence the renovation of the idol should strictly be done
according to the `pancharatna agama'. This practice of making
`unwanted' changes to the idol should be condemned strongly by
all devotees. At this early juncture we should voice a protest
and lend support to the members of the temple heritage protection
committee who have taken up the matter with the Chief Minister.
