Surjeet threatens to sue Murasoli

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, MARCH 7. The CPI (M) general secretary, Mr. Harkishen Singh Surjeet, has threatened to sue the DMK's party organ Murasoli (a Tamil daily) claiming Rs.1 crore, for publishing certain remarks against him.

In a notice addressed to Mr. K.P. Ramalingam, the DMK's farmer's wing secretary and the Murasoli editor, counsel for Mr.Surjeet said the newspaper had published on January 8, a speech of Mr. Ramalingam at Dharmapuri.

In the speech, the notice said, Mr.Ramalingam had made certain damaging remarks against Mr.Surjeet for accepting a van gifted by the AIADMK leader, Ms. Jayalalitha.

Murasoli had published it and followed it with an editorial ``with malafide intention''. This had lowered the reputation of Mr.Surjeet, who had donated his entire inheritance to a Trust and the CPI (M) in 1999.

The notice sought an unconditional apology from Mr. Ramalingam and the newspaper within a week. Otherwise, the notice said, Mr.Surjeet would be constrained to proceed against them in civil and criminal legal forums.
