Police firing: Rs. 1 lakh announced for victim's kin

CHENNAI, FEB. 25. The Tiruvallur district administration today announced a solatium of Rs.1 lakh to the family of the youth Ravi who died in the police firing on Saturday.

The District Collector, Mr. S.K. Prabhakar, said the amount would be handed over to the family members on Monday. Additional police pickets had been posted in some troubled areas of the district following the incident, which included Ammaiyarkuppam (where the police opened fire), R.K.Pettai, Narayanapuram and Athimanjeripettai. `Things are under control today and the troubled areas are limping back to normalcy', he said.

The condition of two more persons who sustained bullet injuries was stable and they were undergoing treatment in Christian Medical College, Vellore, said the Collector.

Bus services to the neighbouring district was not affected, the officials added.
