Narayanan flags off 'Run for Gujarat'

NEW DELHI, FEB. 25. Led by sprint queen, Ms. P.T. Usha, 3000 school children participated in the ``Run for Gujarat'', flagged off by the President, Mr. K.R. Narayanan, this morning from the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

``This endeavour, I'm sure, will not only go a long way in supplementing the efforts of the rest of the world, but also inculcate in children a sense of sympathy and solidarity with the sufferings of others,'' the President said.

Mr. S. Madhavan Kutty, one of the organisers, said nearly Rs. 40 lakhs had been raised through the run which would be spent for construction of schools in the worst-hit regions of Gujarat.
