Chautala, Badal seek increase in wheat price
By Our Special Correspondent
CHANDIGARH, FEB. 23. The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Om Prakash
Chautala, and his Punjab counterpart, Mr. Prakash Singh Badal,
met the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, in New Delhi
today to press for an increase in the wheat support price.
According to an official Press note issued here, Mr. Chautala
told mediapersons in New Delhi that they had come to `pray' on
behalf of the farming community. ``Mr. Vajpayee is sympathetic to
farmers and we are quite hopeful that justice will be done,'' he
added. Mr. Badal said that the prices of the agricultural
products were not increasing when compared to the increasing
costs of living and production. He too stressed upon the need to
safeguard farmers' interests.
