Action on Bindra by BCCI

CHENNAI, FEB. 23. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), at a Special General Body meeting, here, on Friday, has restrained Mr. Inderjit Singh Bindra from attending any meetings of the Board or its panels for a period of two years.

The BCCI, which came down on the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) president for his outburst against the Board, also ruled that Mr. Bindra could not represent the PCA in any of the Board meetings for the same period.

The PCA, served with a warning, too would not be able to nominate Mr. Bindra for any of the Board discussions. However, the BCCI decision could be reviewed during the period if the members chose to.

Mr. A.C. Muthiah, president, BCCI, who chaired the meeting today, said the verdict was delivered on the basis of the report given by the Board Disciplinary Committee headed by him. Mr. Bindra had submitted before the panel in Chennai earlier this year.

Though he termed the decision `sad', Mr. Muthiah noted Mr. Bindra's remarks were most unwarranted and added the Board procedures had to be followed.

Mr. Bindra said he agreed with the disciplinary action taken by the BCCI against him in the wake of his outbursts against the Board in the match-fixing scandal.

When contacted by UNI, Bindra said ``I agree with whatever action the Board president has announced today''.

``I will Carry out the direction sincerely'', he added. Bindra said he had already expressed full confidence with the Board president Mr. A. C. Muthiah.
