Expelled CPI(M) leader launches new party

KOLKATA, FEB. 21. Ahead of the Assembly polls in West Bengal, the expelled CPI(M) leader, Mr. Saifuddin Chowdhury, today floated the ``Party for Democratic Socialism'' (PDS) to provide a third alternative in the State's polarised political scenario and indicated that PDS might go for electoral adjustment with the Congress.

Launching the party at a political convention here, Mr. Chowdhury said he had a talk with the AICC General Secretary in charge of the State, Mr. Kamal Nath, regarding electoral adjustment with his party. Further talks with the Congress would be held later.

Asked whether the PDS would enter into an electoral alliance with any Left front constituent other than the CPI-M, Mr. Chowdhury said it would not attempt to break any party. ``But if any individual or group want to join us, we will welcome them''.
