Nipamacha faction rejects reunification proposal

IMPHAL, FEB. 17. The Nipamacha faction of the Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) today rejected the proposal to reunite with the other faction led by the Union Minister of State for Food Processing, Th. Chaoba Singh.

The general secretary of the Nipamacha group, Mr. G. Joykumar Sharma, said that the decision to reject the proposal for reunification from the MSCP (Chaoba) was taken during a meeting held at the official residence of the senior party leader and former Food and Civil Supply Minister, Mr. Hidam Bidur. Mr. Sharma said that his party being the ``genuine MSCP'' had expelled eight members, led by the former Sports Minister, Mr. Hemanta Singh, from the primary membership of the party for six years for ``anti-party activity''.

Mr. Hemanta Singh, the former Revenue Minister, Th. Bira Singh, former Sericulture Minister, Mr. Hangkhanpao, former Ministers of State - Mr. O Haokip, Mr. Mangaibou, Mr. Chungkhosei and Mr. Allaudin, and the former Deputy Chairman of Planning Board, Mr. L. Jatra Singh, had left the undivided MSCP about two weeks ago resulting in the fall of the former United Front Ministry, led by Mr. Nipamacha Singh. They later joined the Chaoba Singh group.

On February 11, Th. Chaoba Singh, also MSCP working president, had expelled the MSCP president, Mr. Nipamacha Singh, the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. L. Chandramani Singh, and six Ministers from the primary membership of the party for six years for ``anti- party activity''. While Chaoba Singh had claimed that his was ``the real MSCP'', the MSCP's Central Executive Council, presided over by Mr. Nipamacha Singh, had the very next day `expelled' Chaoba Singh, party vice-president, Mr. L. Amujao Singh, and general secretary, Mr. Y. Mangi, also for six years from the primary membership of the party on a similar charge of ``anti- party activity''.
