Pondy outfit fancies DMK prospects

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, FEB. 17. Although almost all political parties are awaiting the decisions of their high commands on the lineup of parties and formation of alliances in the runup to the Assembly polls, the Puduchery Makkal Congress, a regional political outfit here, has come out with an optimistic assessment that the DMK-led front would sweep the polls in Pondicherry. The PMC is already an ally of the DMK-led NDA.

The PMC has also made a firm appeal to all parties opposed to the Congress(I) to strengthen the hands of the DMK chief and ensure that the people were provided a stable administration.

According to PMC sources, the exit of the PMK from the NDA was no threat to the front. On the other hand, PMK entry into the Congress(I)-led front had spread `chaos' among the constituents.

Because too many parties would now run after too few seats to share. Pondicherry has only 30 Assembly segments. The major parties have resolved to put in higher claims and how could there be a facile sharing of these limited seats, asked PMC sources.

The basic question would be whether the Congress(I) would be content with the offer of lesser number of seats particularly when it had held the reins of administration very often and was presently heading a Ministry in the union territory.
