Telugu outfit's terms for electoral support
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, FEB. 17. The Dravida Thelugar Munnetra Kazhagam would
align only with that political front which gives reasonable seats
to the party in the coming Assembly election, said the party
president, Mr. G. Kamatchi, here today.
Addressing the youth conference of the party, he said though
Telugu-speaking people were substantial in number in Tamil Nadu,
their reasonable demands had not been conceded by successive
State governments. So the party had decided to extend support
only to that front which was ready to implement its demands,
including separate quota for Telugu-speaking people in the State
in employment opportunities and in educational institutions.
Visualising bleak prospects for a third front in the State, he
said the party would join either the DMK or the AIADMK front
depending on its response to the party's demands.
Dr. C. M. K. Reddy, general secretary, and Mr. P. Venugopal,
former judge, Madras High Court, were among those who addressed
the conference.
Earlier, the party passed resolutions demanding protection to
linguistic minorities, freedom to select the medium of
instruction in schools and second language status for Telugu in
the State.
