AIADMK broadside against NDA Govt.
By Our Starr Reporter
TUTICORIN, FEB. 12. The leader of the AIADMK in Parliament, Mr.
P. H. Pandian, today said the proposed move to inaugurate the
Swadeshi Industrial Fair by the Prime Minister, Mr. A. B.
Vajpayee, in Coimbatore on February 16 was only aimed at
``diverting the attention of the people'' who were sore over the
``non- performance'' of the NDA Government.
He told reporters here that it was an irony that Mr. Vajpayee had
been invited to inaugurate the meet despite the fact that the
Government led by him supported the WTO agreement which would
``smash'' the country's swadeshi industry.
The NDA allies, including the DMK and the MDMK, were only trying
to ``mislead'' the people, particularly those in the small and
cottage industries by assuring them that steps would be taken to
protect their interests, though that was impossible under the WTO
accord, he claimed.
The Centre had also ``miserably failed'' to crush transborder
terrorism in Kashmir, he said adding that the militants were
using the unilateral ceasefire to buy time for committing more
acts of terrorism to attract world attention. The Government had
not given any opportunity to various parties in Parliament to
express their views on such an important issue, Mr. Pandian
alleged.
An anti-incumbency wave was sweeping across the State and the
front headed by the AIADMK would register a ``resounding
victory'' in the coming Assembly poll, he opined.
