BJP leaders confer with Karunanidhi

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, FEB. 10. Leaders of the State unit of the BJP conferred with the DMK president and Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, at his Gopalapuram residence here this evening.

The BJP delegation including the State president, Mr. Kirubanidhi, general secretary, Mr. L. Ganesan, Hyderabad-based Mr.Rama Rao, national executive member in-charge of Tamil Nadu, and the Union Minister, Mr. Pon. Radhakrishnan, discussed with Mr. Karunanidhi the present political situation.

Though there was ``no agenda'' for their meeting, Mr. Ganesan later said any loss ensuing from the PMK's exit from the NDA in the coming Assembly elections, ``will be compensated by other factors.'' The BJP concurred with the DMK's assessment on this issue.

Mr. Ganesan said that with Mr. Rama Rao having been made in- charge of Tamil Nadu affairs, the latter wished to meet Mr. Karunanidhi.

Mr. Karunanidhi had informed the BJP leaders that he would start regular interactions with the other NDA allies in the State after the DMK's General Council on February 16.

Senior DMK leader and Union Industries Minister, Mr. Murasoli Maran, also had a separate meeting with Mr. Karunanidhi this evening, when he apparently briefed his leader on his discussions with the Prime Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee, in New Delhi two days back.

The MDMK presidium chairman, Mr. L. Ganesan, also met Mr. Karunanidhi, which the former described as a courtesy call.
