Rajampet TD leaders, men threaten to quit

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH, FEB. 10. Several TDP leaders of Rajampet and followers of the TDP legislator, Mr. P. Brahmaiah, on Saturday threatened to resign from the party if the former Congress MLA, Dr. Kasireddy Madanmohan Reddy, and the APSRTC Cuddapah zonal chairman, Mr. Yeddala Subbarayudu, were admitted into the TDP.

After extensive deliberations with the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, at Hyderabad a couple of days ago, Dr. Madanmohan Reddy had agreed to canvass in the Badvel Assembly segment for the Telugu Desam Party candidate, Mrs. K. Vijayamma. Dr. Reddy, who had fallen out with the Congress Legislature Party leader, Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, resigned from Congress before the 1999 Assembly elections and contested as an Independent candidate from Rajampet segment.

The APSRTC zonal chairman, Mr. Y. Subbarayudu, a staunch political opponent of Mr. Brahmaiah, had expressed his support to Dr. Madanmohan Reddy and canvassed for him, and was, thereafter, suspended from the TDP. Notwithstanding his suspension, Mr. Subbarayudu had been attending almost all the TDP programmes and meetings and was also present when the nomination of Mrs. Vijayamma was filed on January 31.

Dr. Madanmohan Reddy announced at a press conference in Badvel on Saturday that he was an independent person, not connected with the TDP in any manner, but had decided to canvass for Mrs. Vijayamma on the personal request of Mr. Chandrababu Naidu. Dr. Reddy asserted that he neither made any demands nor sought any assurances from Mr. Naidu for canvassing for the TDP candidate.

Stating that there was no reason for anybody to be disenchanted by his decision, Dr. Reddy said his followers approved of his decision to campaign for the TDP. He said that he and Mrs. Vijayamma would strive to ensure that the Government paid compensation for the submersible villages.
