Film Review: Paapa

NORMALLY FOR a film to become a hit there are various factors. But in Super Good film's ``Pappa'', all of them or can we say the majority of them, have been ignored. They have only concentrated on the formula type of presentation which has song, dance, comedy, scenes of pathos, a fight here and mother sentiment scene there. But the major defect is the screenplay which shows the lack of consistent approach to the project. One must know how to unite all the factors with a powerful story.

Poor Venkatesh, he is left in the lurch and does not have a clear-cut platform to experiment his skill. This applies to Soundarya also. They have performed to the level which is needed for this type of film. Baby Cherry is lovable. But all these have gone waste mainly because the director has not woven the script with tight and interesting scenes.

Venkatesh is a thief who steals anything under the sun. He comes to know of a person who brings diamonds. He picks up the wrong person and his daughter and realises his fault only after he is caught in a web from which neither he nor the girl can come out.

There is a flashback story also in it. A man lives with his wife near the seashore and one fine morning he finds out what makes the sea swirl at a certain point in a month, particularly on `Amavasya'day. He courageously goes into it and finds a box from which a ray flashes. The villain's group wants to lay its hands on it. They kill him and torture his wife who is pregnant, to know the whereabouts of the box. The child tries to talk to them and when nothing can be done it brings the thief, to save the mother. In the end the hero saves the mother and drops the box back into the sea.

The sets created by Sabu Cyril are good particularly the under -water set. Cameraman Gopal Reddy has done a neat job. Aroor Das has written the dialogues with maturity. Mani Sarma has scored the music keeping in mind the Telugu audience.

A dual role for Venkatesh. He shows little promise in the older role of an archaeologist. Anjala Jewari has some scope in the beginning but is lost before the interval. Soundarya is as usual suffering and crying all the time without reason. Suresh who is the friend of the hero and who turns against him in the end, shows promise. Kodi Ramakrishna has directed the film.A bad film made by a big film company. The dubbing is also poor.
