Planetasia expands range of Internet solutions
By K.Satyamurty
BANGALORE, FEB. 1. The Bangalore-based global Internet
Professional Services (IPS) company Planetasia, has expanded its
services. These now cover Web Strategy Consulting, B2B and B2C
commerce solutions, Portals, Knowledge Management Solutions,
content search, legacy to Web conversions and audience
development and personalisation services.
Mr. Anand Sudarshan, co-CEO of Planetasia told this Correspondent
that the range of Planetasia's Internet solutions were to help
either start-ups or established dot.coms become business
successes. In addition, "brick-and-mortar" enterprises were
enabled to cope with the online era.
He said Planetasia's latest offering was "CoreDias version 1.7",
a content aggregation platform which facilitated extraction of
information from disparate data sources on the Web. It was
targetted at global online services, portals and content driven
e-commerce applications.
The CoreDias platform was useful to portals that required large
volume content additions on a regular basis, Mr. Sudarshan said.
It automated the content gathering process and could be plugged
in with existing content management tools. The platform could
form the backbone of all B2C e-tailing and B2B catalogue driven
services by automating the tasks of rule-based data extracting
and catalogue data aggregation. For example, for an e-tailer
offering comparison shopping, the platform could be used to
gather product information from various sites, based on defined
criteria, which could be processed for comparisons.
Mr. Sudarshan said CoreDias was built using Java and XML, and
included a core engine and the extraction agent. It was an
application of XML that was specifically designed to facilitate
navigation through websites and extract data. This information
was collected in a structured XML format document or stored in
the local database for easy querying and retrieval of data,
facilitating faster processing. CoreDias highlights included
support for higher security features.
A venture funded by Chase Capital Partners and ICICI Ventures,
Planetasia provided Internet solutions to over 150 clients, Mr.
Sudarshan said. The company worked closely with world leaders in
technology, a partnership that brought its clients the best of
solutions. Planetasia believed that the Web was a lifetime
engagement for clients, and it built skills and competencies to
partner clients through the entire life cycle of Web solutions.
A new development of Planetasia was architecting the content
applications for DotEx Plaza, the IT arm of the National Stock
Exchange of India (NSE) and a joint venture with i-flex solutions
Ltd., a leader in e-enabling global financial services. DotEx
created quality platforms for providers of financial services and
to their investors.
The scope of Planetasia's work in this connection included
integration of content from various financial news and research
companies, along with design, development and implementation of
other Web applications in DotEx Plaza. Planetsia's solutions had
helped DotEx offer varied features such as price stickers, charts
and indicator tables, market commentary and news, research
information and securities regulations. The solutions also
included a customised portfolio manager, stock tickers, SMS
alerts and games that familiarised investors with the working of
the stock market. A key feature was personalisation, with a user
being able to customise the content and services offered.
Planetasia is supported by a 600 member team, and has strategic
alliances with the world's leading platform players such as
Ariba, Vignette, Sun, Intel, and technology providers such as
BEA, Bowstreet, IBM, iPlanet, Microsoft and Oracle.
