Govt. to seek IAS officer's suspension

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, FEB. 1. The Cabinet today decided to recommend to the Centre that a senior IAS officer, Mr. B.L. Sridhar, currently Managing Director of the Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Corporation (KFCSC), be suspended for dereliction of duty.

The Cabinet also decided to suspend two KAS officers, Mr. Shivarajappa, District Manager, KFCSC, Dharwad, and Mr. Adoni, acting Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad, on similar grounds, the Minister of State for Information, Prof. B.K. Chandrashekar, told presspersons here.

The minister, who was briefing the press about the decisions of the Cabinet, said Mr. Sridhar had not implemented the instruction of the Cabinet sub-committee to appoint graders to grade maize for effective implementation of the market intervention programme of the Government.

The Government, Prof. Chandrashekar said, had received complaints of deficiency in the implementation of the scheme and indifference of officials leading to delays in the purchase of produce from farmers.

The two other officials had been assigned certain functions such as providing lights in the market yard, plastic containers for drinking water and installing weighing machines to speed up purchase operations, which they had failed to carry out.
