GSLV launch delayed

BANGALORE, FEB. 1. The maiden launch of the Geostationary Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been delayed further and is likely to take place in March.

GSLV's first development flight was scheduled for launch during the second week of February from Sriharikota. However, the ISRO sources indicated to UNI today that the launch had suffered some delay and it would now take place in March.

The GSLV would launch the GSAT-1 an experimental communication payload into geosynchronous transfer orbit. Work was on in full swing at Sriharikota for the launch.

Meanwhile, space commission member, Mr. U. R. Rao, said in Gulbarga that apart from the GSLV, the ISRO would also launch two other communication satellites -Insat 2C and Insat 2a.

Mr. Rao, who delivered the convocation address at the Gulbarga University, said the ISRO's plan to send an unmanned vehicle to the moon was still in conceptual stage. Its modalities, capabilities and economic viability was being worked out. Replying to a question he said there was no proposal at present to send a manned mission to the moon.
