Dog saves master's family
By Manas Dasgupta
AHMEDABAD, FEB. 1. A Pomeranian has saved the lives of its
master's wife and two sons trapped under the rubble of their
house in the quake-hit Bhachau town of Kutch district in Gujarat.
Mr. Narsinhbhai Bhati, a bank employee, had gone out on Republic
Day when the earthquake struck. He rushed back but could not
locate his house as more than 90 per cent of the 600 houses in
the colony had been reduced to rubble.
As Mr. Bhati ran around frantically, trying to locate his family
members, his dog, Rocky, started barking.
Immediately, Mr. Bhati ran to the spot and with the help of some
of the other survivors, removed mounds of debris and dragged out
his wife and two sons who were unconscious.
The injured Rocky was the last to jump out of the debris on his
own.
Mr. Bhati, however, lost both his daughters, one crushed under
the debris and the other killed in her school during the Republic
Day function.
His wife and two sons are being treated at the Mehsana civil
hospital. The faithful dog, despite his injuries, refuses to
leave the hospital.
