NRSA studying data from quake-hit areas

By T. Lalith Singh

HYDERABAD, JAN. 31. A mapping of the earthquake affected areas in Gujarat, particularly the Bhuj region which suffered heavily on January 26, has been done by the National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA).

The images of devastation captured from the skies using high resolution cameras of two satellites, IRS-1C and IRS-1D, were obtained at the NRSA earth station located at Shadnagar on Monday.

The data was being analysed at the NRSA's Data Centre. According to senior NRSA officials, attempts were also being made to assess the devastation by comparing the present images with earlier images of the region generated before the quake.

Once the images which were obtained in a continuous strip are analysed, the data would be sent to the Union Government.
