CBI official gets extension
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, JAN. 31. Dr. Upen Biswas, Additional Director (East)
of the CBI who investigated the Rs. 900 crore fodder scam during
Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav's regime in Bihar, was today given
extension in service till further orders.
As the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the Animal Husbandry
Department (AHD) scam case on February 5, the Centre has decided
to wait for appropriate directions from the apex court so far as
retaining the services of Dr. Biswas is concerned.
The Solicitor-General, Mr. Harish Salve, had earlier sought
directions from the Supreme Court in the matter of Dr. Biswas who
was due for retirement today but the Court did not give any
direction.
In its order tonight, the Ministry of Personnel said the term of
Dr. Biswas was being extended till the Supreme Court decided to
give any direction to the Union Government in the AHD scam case.
