Mystery shrouds attack on youth

BANGALORE, JAN. 27. Mystery shrouds the attack on Mr. Srinivasa Gowda (29), a relative of the Gubbi MLA, Mr. N.Veeranna Gowda, who was stabbed and thrown into a ditch near Kanteerava Studio on Friday night.

Mr. Srinivasa Gowda of Idigur village in Gubbi taluk of Tumkur District used to stay in Mr. Veeranna Gowda's room at the Legislators' Home in Rajajinagar whenever he visited Bangalore.

On Friday, four persons went to the Legislators' Home in a Maruti car at around 3 p.m. and allegedly took away Mr. Sreenivasa Gowda in their vehicle. Later, they allegedly stabbed him and threw him into a ditch around 7 p.m.

The police officers, who found Mr. Sreenivasa Gowda in the ditch, admitted him to a private hospital in Rajajinagar.

In his statement, Mr. Sreenivasa Gowda said that the culprits stabbed him after questioning him why he was after a girl, who was related to the MLA. The same gang had assaulted him twice earlier, he added.

However, the City Police Commissioner, Mr. T.Madiyal, told The Hindu that neither Mr. Veeranna Gowda nor his relatives had anything to do with the assault on the youth.

He said Mr. Sreenivasa Gowda was assaulted earlier in Basaveshwaranagar police station limits.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. S.K.Venugopal, said the reason for the attack was yet to be ascertained. The girl was a classmate of Mr. Sreenivasa Gowda, he added.

The Rajajinagar police have registered a case and are investigating.

Meanwhile, police sources said that Sukumar, Bhaskar, Sundaresh and Ramesh had allegedly assaulted Mr. Sreenivasa Gowda.
