Talk of the town

-``ACTION KING'' Arjun is donning the double role once again. One is in front of the camera and the other, behind it.

In his latest movie, ``Vedam,'' Arjun is packing the action all by himself. Besides taking the lead and looking through Arriflex, he is writing the script and is producing the movie.

The starcast is impressive. Vineeth, Divya Unni, Sakshi Sivanand, Mumtaz and Koundamani.

For the actor who rose to the A-grade with Gentleman and Muthalvan, the muhurat of the film on Wednesday is also an occasion to pay tributes to his mentors. So, the switch on will be ``Rebel Star'' Ambarish, clap by his ``guru,'' Rama Narayanan and ``Indian Wonder,'' Shanker.

``It is about the greatness of humanity and the necessity of the fullness of life,'' says the director.

Is there love ? The catchline says it all ``To be in Love Forever''.

- TWO DAYS later, director Shankar will preside over yet another gala launch at AVM - Soori to be directed by Selvan. Set in a trendy urban backdrop, replete with swaying crowds and flashy skyscrapers, the film has a young lead pair - Vignesh and new comer, Maannyah.

With computers, exotic locales and everything that the new generation wants, this film too is a tale of love as the tag line indicates - ``Experience the Power of Love''.

Music is by Deva, lyrics by Vairamuthu and choreography, Raju Sundaram.

It is launch time in Chennai.

- THE LITERARY bug bites even those in uniform. Mr. T. Radhakrishnan, the DIG Railways, who shot into limelight after the gunning down of a dreaded gangster Kabilan at Adyar some years ago, is taking a shot at something different - writing.

His book in Tamil, ``Enngangu Kaninum Sakthiada'', was released at the book fair. It is a collection of essays portraying women during the different ages beginning from the Sangam Age up to the age of Bhakti literature (age of devotional literature), says Mr. Radhakrishnan.

- HORSE SENSE and political correctness is the formula for success, when Ms.Maneka Gandhi comes visiting. The King Institute, Guindy, in the grip of a crisis after the death of several horses, is getting spruced up.

Workers have been provided with uniforms and new face masks, in time for the Minister-activist's visit on Wednesday. Bushes have been cleared and garbage from the premises has been removed to make it appear clean. Some old buildings are getting repainted and roads repaired.

The impending visit has also got the Chennai Corporation working. Its Commissioner made a rare appearance at the SPCA committee meeting to have a closer look at the working of the organisation. Preparedness helps.

- THE DELEGATES to the ``Future Shock'' convention of the Advertising Club Madras found an elegantly packaged riddle in their conference kit: an ice pick. Many of the uninitiated were clueless. But the fast-paced signature short played repeatedly at the event, with music borrowed from Mission Impossible, did the explanation. The ice pick is to break ice, for, the convention by and large talked about ICE age. The Information, Communication and Entertainment (ICE) age.
