PM urged not to transfer acquired Ayodhya land
NEW DELHI, JAN. 23. The demand for the transfer of the acquired
land at Ayodhya for the construction of a Ram temple is violative
of the Supreme Court orders, the Rajya Sabha member, Mohd. Azam
Khan, has written to the Prime Minister, Mr. A. B. Vajpayee.
In his letter to Mr. Vajpayee, Mr. Khan, who also heads the
Minorities Forum of India, said the land acquired under the
Central Act of 1993 comprises a graveyard consisting of graves of
important Muslim saints. Also, the Supreme Court in its order
dated October 24, 1994, stated that after the final adjudication
of dispute, the land comprising the outer and inner courtyard
would go to the winning party and out of the remaining land,
necessary area would also be provided to the winning party for
other connected and incidental purposes and thereafter, the
remaining land could be ordered to be used for any other purpose.
``The Muslims, keeping in mind the above verdict of the apex
court, were waiting the final adjudication. But now, the demand
of its release in favour of the other side is a matter of
concern,'' he said.
