Grand finale to R-Day fete

NEW DELHI, JAN. 23. The golden jubilee celebrations of the Indian
Republic are slated to end on a high note. The curtains will come
down on them at a grand function on January 27 in the Central
Hall of Parliament.
The function will be attended by the President, Mr. K. R.
Narayanan, the Vice-President, Mr. Krishna Kant, the Prime
Minister, Mr. A. B. Vajpayee, the Lok Sabha Speaker, Mr. G. M. C.
Balayogi, and the Chief Justice of India, Dr. A. S. Anand, who
will also address the MPs and dignitaries.
The highlight will be the relaying of historic speeches by Pandit
Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and
Sardar Patel. Commemorative coins, special commemorative stamps
and a book on select proceedings of the Constituent Assembly will
be released by the Lok Sabha secretariat.
The function will be marked by a recitation of ``Vande Mataram''
by Mr. S. P. Balasubramaniam and a `shehnai vadan' by Ustad
Bismillah Khan.
