Left parties discuss Bengal situation

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JAN. 13. The Left parties met here today and discussed the situation in West Bengal in the wake of recent violent incidents in Midnapore district.

Today's meeting, attended by representatives of the CPI, CPI(M) and the Forward Bloc, focussed on ways to counter the NDA offensive against the Left Front Government in West Bengal.

The NDA which had sent a five-member fact-finding team to Garbeta town, where violence broke out following clashes between the Trinamool Congress and the CPI(M), had demanded the imposition of Central rule in the State.

The CPI leader, Mr. D. Raja, said the Left parties would meet again tomorrow to finalise their strategy of countering the NDA tirade aimed at portraying the West Bengal Government in poor light.
