MTC to run special buses from airport to star hotels

CHENNAI, JAN. 12. The Metropolitan Transport Corporation which introduced air-conditioned bus service from Tambaram to High Court, as an experimental measure, will operate special services from the airport to all leading three-star and five-star hotels in the city.

The MTC has made arrangements with leading hotels to co-ordinate for moving passengers taking flights. The fare per passenger is Rs. 50 and Rs. 80 if the passenger has ``heavy luggage.''

The MTC officials said surveys revealed that public, particularly women, preferred the AC service. The collection so far was Rs. 4,200. The MTC had made suggestion slips available in the bus for obtaining feedback from commuters.

On Saturdays and Sundays, the buses will be available for operation to entertainment spots like MGM Dizzee World, VGP Golden Beach, Kovalam among others. After 5 p.m., the bus will cover all star hotels in Chennai to pick up passengers to the airport. The bus will wait with signboards, ``Welcome to MTC'', to ferry passengers to the hotels.

The MTC also plans bulk booking as a contract carriage to pick up and drop executives for offices, before 8 a.m. Chartered services for corporate sector and to go to picnic spots will be available on Saturday and Sunday.

The AC bus leaves Adyar depot daily at 8-30 a.m. goes to Guindy, Kathipara Junction, Airport and Tambaram and vice-versa on the same route. During night, the bus leaves Adyar depot to pass through hotels like Grand Orient, Park Sheraton, Chola Sheraton, Savera and Woodlands to the airport.

While three non-AC buses have been in operation as airport specials, the AC buses will begin to ply from tomorrow. The MTC has found that flight-linked buses have received good response from the public.
