Anticipatory bail denied to Madurai Deputy Mayor
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, JAN. 12. The Madras High Court today rejected a plea for
anticipatory bail filed by Mr. Misa Pandian, Madurai Deputy
Mayor, wanted in connection with the `Madurai financier
Jagadeesan murder case'.
Mr. Justice N. Dinakar, who heard the counsel for Mr. Ganesan and
the prosecutor, rejected the anticipatory bail plea.
A financier, Jagadeesan was done to death allegedly by a gang at
Jaihindpuram, Madurai on October 18.
Following a statement reportedly given by one of the arrested
persons, Varichaiyur Selvam, implicating the Deputy Mayor in the
murder case, the police threw a dragnet for Mr. Pandian.
Even as a police search was on for him, the investigators said
they had gathered evidence against the missing Deputy Mayor in
connection with the case.
His pleas - one seeking anticipatory bail and another for
transfer of the case to the CB-CID were rejected.
The Deputy Mayor filed yet another anticipatory bail petition
before the High Court.
When it came up for hearing on Friday, the prosecution said the
investigation was in a preliminary case and Mr. Pandian, holding
a public office, was missing for a few weeks now, following which
the Judge dismissed the plea.
