Sinha to lead delegation to Russia
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, JAN.12. The Union Finance Minister, Mr. Yashwant
Sinha, will lead the Indian delegation to carry forward broad-
ranging collaboration with Russia. The discussions in Moscow on
January 15 will form part of the seventh session of the Indo-
Russian Inter-Governmental Commission for Trade, Economic,
Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation.
The session follows the visit to India by the Russian President,
Mr. Vladimir Putin, in October last year when the two sides felt
the bilateral trade and economic cooperation was not commensurate
with its true potential. Mr. Putin and Mr. A.B. Vajpayee had then
asked the Inter-Governmental Commission to identify new and
innovative means of expanding bilateral trade which stood at $1.6
billion during 1999-2000.
During the meeting in Moscow, the two sides are expected to
discuss cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, steel, science
and technology, information technology and civil aviation.
