AJMER, JAN. 10. A three-level probe by the forest, police and
civil departments has begun into the death of a large number of
peacocks at Bubakia village in ajmer district of Rajasthan,
officials today said. The probe started on January 7,the District
Collector, Mrs. Usha Sharma and the Superintendent of Police,
Mr.Alok Tripathi said. The Additional District Collector, Mr.
V. D. Mishra was conducting the civil inquiry. According to the
district administration, 30-35 peacocks had died.
However, the villagers said the number was 50-60. The post mortem
examination showed swelling of liver of the dead birds. It is
suspected that poisonous foodgrains led to the deaths.
