Probe into peacock deaths

AJMER, JAN. 10. A three-level probe by the forest, police and civil departments has begun into the death of a large number of peacocks at Bubakia village in ajmer district of Rajasthan, officials today said. The probe started on January 7,the District Collector, Mrs. Usha Sharma and the Superintendent of Police, Mr.Alok Tripathi said. The Additional District Collector, Mr.

V. D. Mishra was conducting the civil inquiry. According to the district administration, 30-35 peacocks had died.

However, the villagers said the number was 50-60. The post mortem examination showed swelling of liver of the dead birds. It is suspected that poisonous foodgrains led to the deaths.
