Ananthabhaskar loses to Roy

KOLKATA, JAN. 10. In a major upset eighth seeded Rupesh Roy of Bengal showed the door to top seed L.S. Ananthabhaskar of Tamil Nadu in a boys' under-16 quarterfinal match of the AITA-ranking Indian Tennis Academy Open junior tennis meet here at the SAI Eastern Centre courts on Wednesday. Ananthabhaskar failed to match the all-round showing of Roy, who won 6-0, 6-3.

Quarterfinals: boys' under-16: L.S. Ananthabhaskar (TN) lost to Rupesh Roy (Ben) 0-6, 3-6; P. Vivek Reddy (AP) bt Bharat K. Mohan (TN) 6-1, 6-2; Samrat Ghosh (Ben bt Parikshit Pandey (UP) 6-1, 6- 1; Sabyasachi Bose (Ben) bt Nirvick Mohinta (Ben) 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.

Girls under-16: Priyanka Parekh (Ben) bt Tanya Ahuja (Ben) 6-0, 6-0; S. Poonam Reddy (AP) bt D. Tejaswini (AP) 6-3, 6-2; Shilpa Dalmia (Del) bt Sanjana Kapoor (Del) 6-3, 6-2; Kamalpreet Bhullar (Pun) bt Pooja Mitra (Ben) 6-0, 6-1.
