Zydus R&D ties up with Danish Pantheco
By Our Staff Correspondent
MUMBAI, JAN. 10. Zydus Cadila has signed a three year
collaborative R&D agreement in anti-bacterials with Danish
Pantheco. Pantheco and Zydus Research Centre will join efforts in
the research and development of new antibiotic compounds based on
existing classes of antibiotic drugs.
According to the agreement, Zydus will undertake all chemistry,
preliminary screening and initial characterisation of new
compounds with anti-bacterial activity. Pantheco will undertake
further profiling of the drug candidates and perform all
necessary pre-clinical and early clinical development studies
until Phase IA clinical trials. Each company will cover its own
research and development costs and profits will be shared on a
fifty-fifty basis.
``This agreement with Zydus Research Centre gives us access to
new antibacterial compounds and in addition to our current in-
house anti-bacterial programmes, this collaboration strengthens
our efforts to efficiently meet our overall objective of
developing new antibacterial drugs,'' said Mr. Anker Lundemose,
CEO of Panthco.
The Zydus Research Centre (ZRC) which spearheads Zydus Cadila's
research activities is highly skilled in medicinal chemistry and
traditional pharmacology and Indian companies have in the past
delivered patented preclinical compounds to European pharma
companies with success.
