Seminar on computer science, IT

PONDICHERRY, JAN. 8. The 10th Syndicate Bank Endowment lecture
would be inaugurated at the Pondicherry Engineering College on
January 10 by the Regional Manager of the bank, Mr. H.R. Rao.
A communication from the Head of the Department of Computer
Science and Engineering, Dr. P. Thambidurai, said the bank had
instituted the endowment with a fund of Rs. 1 lakh for special
lectures on recent trends in computer science and engineering.
This would enable the staff and students to keep abreast of
emerging trends.
Dr. G.V.N. Appa Rao, Chief Consultant (Research and Development)
in Cognizant Technology Solutions Ltd., Chennai would present a
lecture on ``Convergence of Technology''.
Dr. K. Meena, Principal of Shrimathi Indira Gandhi College for
Women, Tiruchi would present a talk on ``Neural Networks'' as
scientists had been trying to emulate working of human brain.
Neural Networks is one such method where research was being
carried out widely.
Using this system it would be possible to forecast in the areas
of weather, stock markets, geographical changes, etc.
Dr. C. Pandu Rangan, Professor and Head of the Department of
Computer Science and Engineering in Indian Institute of
Technology, Madras will present a lecture on ``What is Computer
Science?'' to highlight the distinction between computer science
and information technology.
