No room for bees
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, JAN. 8. Stirring a hornet's nest. At Valluvar Kottam
today, the Tamil Nadu Fire Service personnel took this phrase
very seriously. They spent the better part of today, removing two
big honeycombs built by bees on top of the Valluvar Kottam
chariot.
The fire personnel were called to perform this unusual service,
in preparation for the Chief Minister's function, scheduled to be
held at Valluvar Kottam on January 12.
The two honeycombs, which were reportedly three feet long and
wide, were smoked out, on the instructions of DFO, Mr. N.
Jeevanandam, according to the fire service personnel.
Their efforts yielded one great pile of ash, as the bees and
their honeycombs, burnt up in the heat created by the fire that
was started by the personnel. The honey is withered from the
combs and no bees hum at Valluvar Kottam.
