COIMBATORE, JAN. 8. The door-to-door verification of the Form 6 received for inclusion in the voters list was completed in Coimbatore district on Sunday and a second verification on the voters, whose names were in the electoral rolls but their whereabouts not known, was carried out on Monday.

The re-check was ordered by the District Collector, Mr. G. Santhanam, to ensure that no name was deleted from the list in this suo motu deletion process, without a 100 per cent confirmation that the voter was either dead or has shifted out.

Out of the 42 Assembly Constituencies identified in the State for verification on claims for inclusion, seven were in Coimbatore district. The constituencies with the number of Form 6 received in brackets were: Coimbatore East (27,970), Coimbatore West (28,656), Singanallur (43,710), Thondamuthur (60032), Perur (50,123), Palladam (28,694) and Tirupur (46,630). The suo motu deletion of names from the electoral rolls would be done only after giving sufficient time for the voters to represent. Seven days' time from the date of publishing would be given for the voters to represent their case, if their names should not be deleted from the electoral rolls.

Madurai

Cent per cent verification of voters in Madurai East, West, Tiruparankunram and Samayanallur Assembly segments of Madurai district is to be taken up from tomorrow as per the directive of the Election Commission.

According to the District Collector, Mr. V. Further door-to-door verification would be undertaken from tomorrow for three days in these constituencies from where applications for inclusion in electoral rolls had exceeded 10 per cent of the electoral strength. Though the CEO had indicated that the verification would be extended upto Monday, the district administration had made a request to allow the exercise to go on from Tuesday to Thursday. He said about 16,000 applications in the Madurai East, 19,000 in Madurai West, 8,900 in Tiruparankunram and 7,500 in Samayanallur had been received for exclusion from the electoral rolls.

The 100 per cent verification of voters in Tiruchi I, Tiruchi II and Tiruverambur constituencies in Tiruchi district ordered by the Election Commission in view of the relatively high rate of claims for inclusion in the electoral rolls was almost over, according to officials sources. In Tiruchi I and Tiruchi II constituencies, about 350 officials of the Corporation were on the job during the past three days, and the work was almost over by evening today. While the officials claimed that the verification officials had visited every dwelling, residents in pockets of Thillainagar, Cantonment, Karumandapam, Woriyur and Varahaneri maintained that none had visited their houses during the past few days for verification of the voters lists.
