Rebuilding mosque is the only way out: BMAC(I)
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, JAN. 8.The Babri Masjid Action Committee
(International) resolved at a meeting here on Sunday that ``any
solution to the Ayodhya dispute is possible only by
reconstructing the mosque.''
The committee discussed the recent statements and counter
statements by the Prime Minister. It did not name him, but talked
about the contradictory statements made by ``important members of
the Sangh Parivar.''
It was noted that in his ``musings'' from Kerala, the Prime
Minister had said the demolition of the ``mosque structure'' was
contrary to the tenets of law and the Hindu ethos. Further, the
Home Minister, Mr.L.K. Advani, had acknowledged that the
demolition was a mistake and was the result of the collapse of
leadership. Hence, the only reasonable stance would be ``the
reconstruction of the mosque at its old site,'' the committee
stated.
The committee said ``the Prime Minister and the Home Minister
should prove that they are leaders of a Government based on a
secular democratic polity and not those of militant sections of a
particular community.'' The leaders of secular parties should
prevent the Sangh Parivar taking a confrontationist stance.
The context was not only the contradictory statements made by the
Prime Minister but also the expected announcement of dates for
construction of a temple by the ``dharam sansad'' (a gathering of
Hindu priests under the guidance of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad).
The committee said any dialogue with the Hindu community should
be held ``in the light of the teachings of the Koran and the
Gita.''
Among the 25 members who attended the meeting were Maulana Yaseen
Akhtar Misbahi, chairman of the All-India Muslim Mushawarat
Board, Mr. Rahat Mahmood and Mr. Salim Ansari, founder members of
the All-India babri Masjid Action Committee, Dr. Firoze Talaat,
general secretary of the Bharti Majlis, and the convener of the
committee, Mr. Javed Habeeb.
PTI reports:
Mr. Hashim Ansari has said he would not participate in the
proposed talks with Mr. Katiyar on January 13.
