Dispose of Ayodhya cases soon: V.P. Singh
LUCKNOW, JAN. 8. The Ayodhya issue could only be resolved through
a court verdict and the Government should ensure that the hearing
in the Ram Janmabhumi-Babri Masjid related cases were held on a
``day-to-day basis,'' former Prime Minister, Mr. V.P. Singh, has
said.
Speaking to reporters here Mr. Singh said the cases were pending
for the last 40 years and the Government should now ensure that
these cases were disposed of expeditiously.
``It is strange that the judiciary takes no time in ordering
removal of poor people from unauthorised colonies, but it does
not act swiftly in a case related to an emotive issue even after
four decades,'' Mr. Singh said.
He said in his capacity as Prime Minister he had approached the
then Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to hold hearing on the
Ayodhya issue on day-to-day basis and he had agreed for the same.
Mr. Singh, however, said till the Ayodhya tangle was resolved
through a court verdict, no one should be allowed to take law
into their own hands. ``Everyone needs to respect the law of the
land and none is above it,'' he said.
