Incorrect information
Sir, - This refers to the article ``Will Sonia use her authority
to usher in a new culture?'' by Mr. Harish Khare (The Hindu, Jan.
1).
The Indian National Congress has always maintained a fair
representation for all the castes, communities, linguistic and
religious groups in the organisation, more so specially when
Indira Gandhi was at the helm of party affairs.
Following in her footsteps Soniaji has also kept all these issues
on priority while giving representation to its members in party
affairs. Her priority for reservation of posts inside the party
for women is another landmark in the political history of our
country.
Factually, there was incorrect information on the AICC members
list from Karnataka in Mr. Khare's article. Out of 71 nominations
made by the AICC, 13 members belong to the Scheduled Castes, not
two as reported.
Further the list included Muslims-7, Christians-5, STs-3,
Brahmins-5, OBCs-17 and upper caste Lingayaths and Vokkaligas-21.
The most important factor is representation of 16 women members
in this AICC list.
Mohan Kondajji,
Spokesman, KPCC, Bangalore
