Bal Bhavan planning children's study centre

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, JAN. 4. The newly-appointed Chairperson of the Bal Bhavan and former Deputy Mayor of Bangalore City, Ms. Manjula Naidu, has said that the bhavan is planning to develop a complete children study centre on the outskirts of Bangalore City.

She told presspersons here today that the bhavan would shortly submit a proposal to the Government in this regard. The bhavan would require 10 to 20 acres of land on the City's outskirts for developing the centre. The objective of the study centre was to create modern technological and heritage parks for imparting education informally.

She said that the 22 centres of the Bal Bhavan were committed to the over-all development of children. The Bal Bhavan would shortly launch a large-scale membership drive offering attractive incentives such as a 25 per cent rebate on the rentals of the hall situated in Cubbon Park to host birthday parties.

Besides providing computer and medical facilities, the bhavan at the Cubbon Park would be made more attractive and eco- friendly after some structural changes were made to it. She said when she was the Deputy Mayor, she visited a number of children parks abroad. She would try and implement a few of the effective methods adopted by foreign study centres for imparting informal and cultural education to children.

Asked if the Bal Bhavan was financially sound to take up the developmental activities on its own, Ms. Naidu replied that the Bhavan would mobilise funds. Although the bhavan was getting an annual grant of only Rs. 40 lakhs, it would mobilise another Rs. 30 lakhs from various schemes including the Union Government's programmes for children. It was hopeful of mobilising substantial funds from the membership drive.
