Minority panel chief quits

NEW DELHI, JAN. 2. Mr. Irshad Mirza, today resigned as chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Minorities Commission citing non-resolution of the grievances of the minorities as the reason.

``After taking over as chairman, I had raised some serious issues concerning the minorities before the Chief Minister who had assured a favourable consideration of the grievances. However, no such announcements were forthcoming from the Chief Minister. I find no further purpose in continuing in my post,'' Mr. Mirza said in a statement.
