Minister urges people to pay bills on time

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JAN. 2. Three school buildings, including one for the visually impaired children, were inaugurated on the first day of the 14th round of the Janmabhoomi programme in the city on Tuesday. The Roads and Buildings Minister, Mr. K. Vijayarama Rao, and the Labour Minister, Mr. C. Krishna Yadav, inaugurated these buildings at Nayaknagar, Rajanarasimha Colony and Dar-ul-Shifa.

After inaugurating the Government Boys Primary School, built at a cost of Rs. 29 lakhs at Rajanarasimha Colony, Mr. Vijayarama Rao urged the people to pay their bills for electricity and water and also the property tax on time. This would help the civic administration in improving facilities and providing better amenities, he said.

Responding to complaints from the local residents on the bad condition of roads, Mr. Vijayarama Rao announced that a cement road would be laid there. He also said that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) would take up a Rs. 1 lakh project to provide drinking water connections.

Towards easing the traffic problems in the congested old city areas, he said the Government was keen on widening the road from Charminar to Falaknuma. The work on strengthening the metro railway services would also start soon, he said.

The Minister said efforts were on to develop recreation centres in the old city. He promised to check the possibilities of developing the lake on the 150 acre land at Bandlaguda as suggested by the Chandrayangutta MLA, Mr. Akbaruddin Owaisi, for this purpose.

Members of the Abhyudaya Mahila Mandali at Rajanarasimha Colony submitted a petition to the visiting ministers stating that the open land in front of the school which was earmarked for park was being encroached. Calling for a detailed enquiry into the allegation, Mr. Owaisi urged the authorities to deal sternly with rowdy sheeters who were allegedly grabbing land and selling it to innocent persons.

Extending all possible support to the ``good schemes launched by the State Government'', Mr. Owaisi said his party would not hesitate to oppose the policies and decisions that went against the common man's interests. He also appealed to the residents to sink their communal differences and work together for the betterment of the colony.

At Nayaknagar, where a school built at a cost of Rs. 5.65 lakhs was inaugurated, the Labour Minister, Mr. C. Krishna Yadav, counselled the parents to send their children to school and to desist from the habit of sending them to work. If children were found working, the Government would book cases against the employers, he cautioned.

He also stated that the development of Hyderabad was not complete without improving the old city. Necessary steps were already being taken to provide better roads and sanitary conditions, he added.

Later, the Ministers inaugurated a new wing of the Government Boys High School for the Blind at Dar-ul-Shifa and promised to expedite the work on the construction of toilets and other facilities in the school.

During the visit to the old city, residents complained against lack of civic amenities, including bad roads and absence of drinking water connections. As part of the Janmabhoomi programme, the Ministers also presented cheques to the beneficiaries of various schemes, such as old age pension, widow pensions and girl child scheme.

Senior officials, including the Hyderabad District Collector, Mr. Rajesh Tiwari, the MCH Commissioner, Mr. P.K. Mohanty, the HMWSSB Managing Director, Mr. M.G. Gopal, accompanied the Ministers on their visit.
