Lone not to visit Pak.
In fresh rumblings in the All-Party Hurriyat Conference a day ahead of its crucial executive council meeting, its senior leader, Mr. Abdul Gani Lone, considered a moderate, today said he would not be a member of the Hurriyat team proposed to visit Pakistan on January 15 and mounted a scathing attack on hardliners in the conglomerate of separatist outfits for a ``campaign'' against him.

'Point 5353 held by India'
The Defence Minister, Mr. George Fernandes, indicated that Indian forces were now holding Point 5353, a 17,561-feet high feature which is important for the defence of a key sector on the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir. During his latest visit to the border areas, he stood on this peak and got himself photographed.

India's charge baseless, says Pak.
Pakistan today dubbed as ``baseless'' the charge made by the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, that it was behind the threats made by a militant organisation to attack his office, and said it unequivocally condemns terrorism and threats of terrorist attacks.

Normal life hit in Manipur
Normal life was affected today, the second day of the 48-hour ``Manipur Bandh'' called by Bof Meira Paribis (women's organisation), demanding withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, official sources said.

Teargassed
Police today lobbed tear gas shells to disperse a crowd which assembled at the residence of the Deputy Superintendent of police, U.C. Jha, who succumbed to injuries on Sunday.

Temple model for Prayag
Under tight police security, the model of the proposed Ram temple at Ayodhya left here today for Prayag in Uttar Pradesh, to be displayed at the three-day ``Dharma Sansad'' there beginning January 19. The model was taken by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal activists.

No election to CWC: Mirdha
The chairman of Congress central election authority, Mr. Ram Niwas Mirdha, today said there would be no election to the party's highest policy making body, the Congress Working Committee (CWC).
