Kannan to meet PM soon

PONDICHERRY DEC 20. Mr. P. Kannan, MLA and former PWD Minister of Pondicherry, said here today that he would call on Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and other Central Ministers soon to bring to their notice the current `misdeeds` committed by bigwigs in power in the Union Territory.

Addressing newspersons, he said that the voters in Cassicade constituency that he represents were being harassed by a 50- member team of the Election Department.

He charged that there was an attempt by a party to delete the names of 2013 voters from the list and the party's three-member team had presented a bulk of petitions, seeking the deletion.

Mr. Kannan said that he would take up this issue with the authorities concerned. In the next four days, he and his supporters would launch an agitation, if the voters' list was `disturbed'.

The schemes that were finalised were pushed to the background, he said, adding that for instance, distribution of bicycles for Dalit students had not been implemented properly.

The president of Milk Producers' Union in cooperative sector, Mr. Srinivasan, could not assume charge, as there had been attempts to put too many obstacles in his way, Mr.Kannan alleged.

He refuted the criticism by the Chief Minister, Mr. P. Shanmugham, that he (Kannan) had violated the norms of collective responsibility on the Floor of the House and hence he was dismissed from the Cabinet. Mr.Kannan said that he had not indulged in any demeanour unbecoming of a Minister.
