Hallowed temple
THIRUKKADAIYUR: - History of the Temple: Kumari Pathippagam; 8,
Neela South Street, Nagappattinam-611001. Rs. 16.
ONLY A very few will not be aware of the devotee Markandeya who
was blessed to remain 16 years of age for ever and of the episode
of Abhirami Bhattar for whose prayers, the Divine Mother changed
the New Moon day as Full Moon.
Both these events occurred at Thirukkadaiyur in Tamil Nadu. Also
associated with this pilgrim centre is the life of one Saivite
apostle - Kungiliyakkalaya Nayanar.
The history of this temple town, which is under the control of
the Dharmapuram Adeenam, the Mrityunjaya Homam usually performed
there on the occasion of Sashtiabdapurthi and Sathabhishekam of
devotees, the nearby sanctified places and other interesting
details have been finely told by Mr. R. Subrahmanyam in his
English version of the Tamil work by Mr. Azhi V. Ramaswami.
