Facile win for Tele Sport

NEW DELHI

MR. PARAMVIR SINGH could not have aspired for anything more than his Tele Sport (Shakti Singh up), scoring a runaway victory in the Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri Delhi 2,000 Guineas and thus completing a Guineas double.

The Classic Sport filly, trained by K. P. Singh, shared the honours in the 1,000 Guineas with Snow Empress after deadheating with the latter for the second spot but declared a joint winner after an objection against Escade.

Snow Empress now filled the third berth with the Calcutta challenger Allaying, withdrawn from the first classic here, placing second. At My Command, installed as prime favourite, just clung to the frame with Tele Sport clocking the distance of 1,400 metres in 1 min. 24.8 secs.

At My Command who was racing third all the way, lost this position close home. Perhaps, this race gallop would stand him in good stead for his next outing. Allaying and Snow Empress were racing sixth or seventh till the midway mark. Fourth at the distance post, Allaying surged forward to take up the runner-up berth and must have given satisfaction to her connections.

In a field of 12 contenders, only four fillies participated but three finished on board to show their readiness to tackle the opposite sex.

Jockey Shakti Singh was in the limelight during the afternoon. Earlier he helped Speedy stage a successful debut in the Lt. Col. Govind Singh Memorial Cup for maiden two-year olds. After the classic victory, this plucky rider went on to complete a treble with Irish Rose in the ensuing event.
