Medha Patkar sues daily
NEW DELHI, DEC. 15. The Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) activist,
Ms. Medha Patkar, today filed a criminal defamation case against
the daily, The Indian Express in a city court for having carried
an advertisement allegedly defaming to her and the Narmada
movement.
Ms. Patkar named Mr. V.K. Saxena, president of the National
Council for Civil Liberties, which had given the advertisement,
the editor-in-chief of the The Indian Express, Mr. Shekhar Gupta
and its publisher, Mr. G.R. Saxena, as accused.
The complaint also mentioned that the daily had carried a
clarification later saying that the publication was merely an
advertisement and the ``paper does not subscribe to contents of
the views expressed therein''.
