Priyanka crashes out

CALCUTTA, DEC. 14. Top-seeded Priyanka Parekh of Bengal, who is ranked third in the country, fell prey to unseeded S. Poonam Reddy (ranked 18th in the country) of Andhra Pradesh 3-6, 3-6 in the girls' under-16 section quarterfinals of the inaugural Adhip Mukerjea Memorial AITA junipr ranking tennis here at the Jaidip Mukerjea Tennis Academy on Thursday.

Similar was the fate of third seeded Oormila Ram of Andhra Pradesh and fourth seeded K. Fathima Baig of Tamil Nadu.

Oormila was outclassed by Delhi's Parul Goswami 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Fathima gave in more easily to Sandri Gangotri of Andhra Pradesh who won 6-3, 6-4.

Boys' under-14: Anshuman Dutta (Asm) bt Ayan Saikia (Asm) 6-0, 6- 1, L.S. Ananthabhaskar (TN) bt Dhruv Sundar (Kar) 6-2, 6-2, Rupesh Roy (Ben) bt P. Vivek Reddy (AP) 6- 2, 6-2, Somdeep Appineni (AP) bt M. Hariprasath (TN) 6-1, 6-0.

Girls' under-16: Priyanka Parekh (Ben) lost to S. Poonam Reddy (AP) 3-6, 3-6, Oormila Ram (AP) lost to Parul Goswami (Del) 4-6, 6-4, 5-7, K. Fathima Baig (TN) lost to Sandri Gangotri (AP) 3-6, 4-6, Ragini Vimal (Ben) bt K. Pooja (AP) 6-3, 6-0.

Girls' under-14: Oormila Ram (AP) lost to K. Pooja (AP) 6-7 (2), 2-6, Sandri Gangotri (AP) bt Sarmistha Chowdhury (Ben) 6-0, 1-0 (conceeded), S. Poonam Reddy (AP) bt Parul Goswami (Del) 6-4, 4- 6, 6-4, K. Fathima Baig (TN) bt Bhavani Trimurti (Del) 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
