By Our Staff Correspondent

BELGAUM, DEC. 14. In a freak accident, six persons - four women, a girl and a boy - were killed and nine injured, when a tipper hit by a lorry ran amuck and knocked down people waiting at the bus stop at Halaga, eight km. away from Belgaum, on Thursday morning. The deceased have been identified as Mallavva, wife of Bharamappa Hundri (55), Kashavva, wife of Rudrappa Shivappanavar (40), Rudrawwa, wife of Ramaling Bani (40), and her daughter, Mahadevi (12), Kamalavva, wife of Nagappa Jadar (40), and Iranna, son of Basavant Itagi (10).

Those killed and injured were the passengers of a mofussil bus to Marikatti from Belgaum, who had alighted there when the tyre of the bus got punctured near the village.

Eyewitnesses said the lorry, which was coming from Bangalore, hit a tipper, which in turn dashed against a KSRTC bus going to Saundatti from Belgaum injuring its driver, Mr. T.L.Vakkund. It ran over people, who were either trying to get into the Saundatti-bound bus or waiting for some other bus. The tipper came to a halt after falling into a roadside ditch.
