Indo Tech's fresh plans

CHENNAI, DEC. 13. Indo Tech Transformers plans to widen its
activities. Its group company, Vigneswara Electricals, has forged
a technical alliance with Trafo Elettro Services of Italy for
producing a range of maintenance free dry type cast transformers,
voltranzs, (up to 5000 kVA/33kV) class to suit Indian markets.
The company, in technical alliance with a leading Canadian
company, has introduced the mobile substation concept to the
Indian customers. It has already supplied over 20 power
transformers to be used in mobiles for various customers in the
U. S. These mobiles are hitech products and need a lot of
manufacturing expertise, said Mr. P. S. Shekar, Director
(operations) at a press conference here today.
Negotiations are under way with the Karnataka Power Transmission
Corporation and A.P. Transmission Corporation for supply of
mobile substations, he said.
The company has a technical collaboration with Honneywell of the
U. S to manufacture distribution transformers using amorphous
metal cores and with Mobilesource Industries of Canada, Ontario
for producing larger power transformers, including mobile sub-
station transformers.
The company has embarked on an upgradation programme at its
facility in Thirumazhisai, near Chennai, costing Rs. 1.90 crores.
The company set up this facility in 1996 and is now adding a few
test equipment and other machinery to increase productivity and
improve the overall efficiency. On completion of expansion, the
capacity of the Thirumazhisai unit would go up to 1800 MVA
annually from 1500 MVA annually and the overall capacity,
including those of Saidapet and Palakkad units, will reach 2250
MVA.
Indo Tech Transformers is the flagship of the Indo Tech group
with diverse interests in manufacturing electrical, electronics,
computer hardware related products. Besides developing business
with leading hotels, hospitals, steel and cement plants, the
company has been exporting transformers to Nigeria, Germany,
Egypt, Singapore, Ghana, Switzerland and U. S.
