BSF IGP, STF chiefs meet

By Our Special Correspondent

COIMBATORE, DEC. 12. The chiefs of Special Task Force of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, Mr. V. Balachandran, and Mr. Harsh Vardhana Raju, respectively, who are involved in the operation to nab forest bandit, Veerappan, had a brain-storming session with the IGP, BSF, Mr. K. Vijay Kumar, here today.

The Joint Commandant of the STF, Mr. Balachandran, and Mr. Vijay Kumar, refused to divulge any details, except that more BSF men would soon join the STF.

Meanwhile, at a press meet, the DGP, Law and Order, Mr. R. Rajagopalan, said the STF would ensure ``local support and co- operation.''

Mr. Rajagopalan, who had discussions with Mr. Vijay Kumar and Mr. Balachandran, said ``this operation will yield results as the level of motivation of the forces is very high.'' The entire operation would be a ``joint operation of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in letter and spirit.''

On the failure of the BSF a few years ago for a similar operation, he said, ``Do not underestimate the capacity of the BSF.''

Asked about the reports of Veerappan fleeing to Sri Lanka, he said, ``We have no such information. We believe he is still in the forests.''
